Position Description

The President & CEO will build trust and extend the breadth and depth of a YMCA’s reach across our service area. The President & CEO will lead collaborative efforts to grow and maintain productive working relationships in the community that enhances our reputation and furthers our mission and cause. This position requires strong skills and competencies, including membership and program growth, staff development, fundraising, fiscal stewardship, and facilities management. The CEO will be a relationship builder who is visible in the community and active in the development of meaningful community partnerships and collaborations while continuing to demonstrate that this YMCA is an indispensable community asset. Also, guide the Board of Directors to new heights.

Maui YMCA Facts

The Maui YMCA opened in 1960 in an office space on Main Street, Wailuku. The first programs included day camps and environmental camps at YMCA Camp Keanae. A capital campaign was launched in the 1980’s and a new building was built in Kahului in 1990. Just three years later, an addition was added that included racquetball courts, weight and cardio room.

In 2008 a $5 million capital campaign was launched to include renovations to the current building and add a gymnasium. All the renovations were completed with $3.5 million raised, but the gym was never built. The Y is known for being family oriented and it is the place where they know your name.

The new building was built in 1990 and remodeled in 2008. It is 17.284 sq. ft. Some facility features include an outdoor pool, racquetball court, Spin Room (converted racquetball court), weight room, cardio room, aerobics room, two locker rooms, kitchen, and kid’s clubroom.

Ensure your Y is seen as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other. Essential Functions

Minimum Criteria for Candidates:

Accredited 4-year college degree or other relevant experience.
Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
Experience in developing new programs, reviewing and enhancing programs being offered or considered for both the economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.

Preferred Criteria For Candidates

YMCA Organizational Leader Certification, or ability to achieve within 3 years.
Fiscally sound business management approach.
Strategic planning and Fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $1M annually.

Salary Range: 120,000-145,000

Benefits: Retirement contribution, vacation plan, health plan and other benefits per personnel policy included. Vacation begins at 2 weeks and staff can earn up to 4 weeks over time. Sick leave is 1 week.

Residency Expectation: The CEO is expected to be highly engaged in our community. Living in the YMCA’s service area (Maui) is required.
