Summary & Scope:

The President/CEO is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, capacity building and programs. The President/CEO is the ultimate internal decision-maker on operational decisions (consulting with senior staff in thoughtful consideration of the institutional memory and knowledge they hold) and checking with the Board of Trustees on any decisions with larger policy implications for United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA). The President/CEO will work closely with the Board of Trustees to support and facilitate effective oversight and direction setting.

The President/CEO will be a manager, coach, guide and partner in problem-solving the major work that is being led by the staff and especially the Leadership Team. The President/CEO will need to be an external face for UWSWA and/or will determine whom to best involve when strategic external communications, partnerships, and fund development are needed.

Specific Priorities:

Closely monitor the budget, especially tracking and problem-solving through revenue generation and reducing expenditures.
Retain staff and observe functionality of current staff
Ensure UWSWA sustains and builds external partnerships especially relationships with funders and long-term fundraising plans are in place
Foster staff morale and build staff readiness and excitement as the organization functions as a key pillar of our community
Facilitate relationship building between staff and board.
Work with staff to ensure that community impact work is in alignment and that staff are working well together
Develop target goals to monitor UWSWA’s’ sustainability in terms of revenue generation, programs, and finances.
Maintain and grow community impact and service to our community

Specific Responsibilities:

Human Resources: overall responsibility for development, support, and retention of staff and volunteers, including specific responsibility for working collaboratively with the identified Leadership Team to ensure a positive work environment.
Fund Development: oversee implementation of strategies to build productive relationships and continue to generate support from foundations, corporate donors, major donors and individuals.
Financial Management: continuous monitoring of financial performance, and development and implementation of revisions to financial strategies as needed. Ensure the maintenance of effective systems for service delivery through budget to actual reporting and the use of fiscal data as a management tool for decisions and timely financial reports to the board of trustees.
Planning and Evaluation: engage the board and staff in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of UWSWA’s services and in strategic planning to identify financial, program, and infrastructure development goals and strategies.
Community Impact and Partner Relationships: build awareness of the impact of UWSWA’s work and role in the community. Sustain relationships with key nonprofit agencies, businesses and governmental partners to better serve the needs of UWSWA’s mission.
Board Support: facilitate effective participation in strategic planning, financial oversight, community outreach, and fund development through board and committee service.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree required with 7+ years of non-profit leadership experience

· Strategic thinker who is well versed in making decisions with an understanding of how they impact the big picture

· Team builder who is good with encouraging staff to performance. Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Strong strategic fiscal management, oversight and budgeting skills

· Ability to maintain relationships with and funders and community stakeholders

· Good understanding of the operational and back-office systems and framework of a nonprofit (HR, Finance, IT, etc.)

· Experience working with boards of trustees, committees and volunteers

· Understands the local community and the unique challenges and opportunities available

Desirable, But Not Required

● Masters in Public Administration (MPS) or related field

Previous Work Experience:

Seasoned nonprofit manager with successful senior level experience managing an organization (programs, strategy, strategic planning, human resources, finances, and framework)

Technical Knowledge:

· Proficiency with a Windows operating system, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, the Internet

· Ability to utilize Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or other video conferencing software

· Experience with donor processing systems and CRM preferable

· Ability to organize a variety of tasks, meet deadlines and attend to details.

· Reliable automobile, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
